Instagram API

The Instagram API for posts, Reels & Stories

Publish feed posts, carousels, Reels and Stories from your own code. One request per post; the Graph API containers, aspect ratios and token refresh are handled for you.

What you can publish

Every Instagram format, one endpoint

The same request that posts everywhere else, with the fields Instagram needs and nothing it doesn't.

Feed posts & carousels

One image, one video, or a mixed carousel of up to 10 files, with per-item people tags.

type: "POST"

Reels

Vertical video, with an optional cover frame and a choice to share it to the main feed.

type: "REEL"

Stories

A 9:16 image or video that goes live on schedule and expires after 24 hours.

type: "STORY"

Trial Reels

Show a Reel to non-followers first, then graduate it manually or on performance.

Beyond publishing

More than a way to post to Instagram

Everything around the post — when it goes out, how it performs, where else it lands — through the same API.

Scheduling

Schedule Instagram posts to the minute

Give a post a time and Bulkit publishes it then. Queue a week — or a quarter — of Instagram content in one go, and let retries and rate limits take care of themselves.

  • Any time zone
  • Retries built in
  • Rate limits handled
Analytics

Instagram analytics, in one schema

Profile and post insights, refreshed every 24 hours, with demographics. Same response shape as every other network, so there's nothing to reconcile.

  • Reach
  • Impressions
  • Plays
  • Saves
  • Shares
  • Profile views
Cross-posting

Instagram and 11 more networks in one call

Add targets to the same request and one payload fans out everywhere, with each network getting the fields it needs. Upload media once and reuse it on every channel.

  • One API key
  • One schema
  • No per-network fees
AI agents

Let your AI agent post to Instagram

Bulkit's MCP server gives Claude, Cursor or any MCP-compatible agent real tools to publish and schedule to Instagram — the same actions your code calls.

  • Claude & Cursor
  • Scoped API keys
  • Every call logged

Aspect ratios, fitted

Feed images must be 4:5 or 1:1. Set autoFitImage or autoCropImage and Bulkit resizes the file before Instagram can reject it.

Tags that follow the rules

Reels take usernames, single images take x/y positions, carousels take tags per item. One tagged field, validated per format.

Locations and account lookup

Search locations and business accounts through Bulkit's lookup endpoints instead of wiring up the Graph API yourself.

Analytics on a schedule

Profile and post insights refresh every 24 hours, with demographics included, in the same schema as every other network.

Instagram is one of 12 channels

Add a target and the same post goes out everywhere else too — one key, one schema, no per-network fees.

FAQ

Instagram API: common questions

  • Can I schedule Instagram Reels and Stories through the API?

Yes. Set type to REEL or STORY, attach your upload, and give the post a postDate. Bulkit publishes it at that time; Stories expire 24 hours after they go live, as on Instagram.

  • Does the Instagram API support carousels?

Yes. A POST can carry 1 to 10 files — images, videos or a mix — and each carousel item can have its own people tags. Videos inside a carousel can't be tagged.

  • Can I add collaborators and locations?

Feed posts and Reels accept up to 3 collaborators and a locationId. Stories support neither, which matches Instagram's own rules.

  • What analytics do I get for Instagram?

Profile metrics over a rolling 30 days (impressions, reach, profile views, followers) and lifetime post metrics (impressions, reach, plays, likes, comments, saves, and shares on Reels), plus demographics. Data refreshes every 24 hours.

  • How much does the Instagram API cost?

Bulkit is $4.99/month with 500 actions included and $0.01 per action after that. Instagram is included with every other network — there's no per-platform fee.

Your first Instagram post is one request away
